A Voyage to Discovery - Libraries on the Move
We are using this title for both events. We are interested in raising the profile of the mobile library showing to the world that mobile libraries are an integral part of the library service not just a peripheral add-on.
The objective for our sessions is to show that with the current advances in IT, mobile libraries can now have access to world-wide information and pass that access on to people in every last corner of the globe
Topics for papers:
We would like to hear from people who can tell us of innovations in giving access to socially deprived people. We would prefer to hear from actual working and sustainable schemes.
We would also like to hear from people giving services under difficult conditions.
By mobile library we mean any system of taking books out to scattered communities. At its most basic this could be by carrying books on the librarians back right up to service on an ocean going ship.
How to submit a proposal:
Proposals (300-500 words) should be sent to the address below, by Friday 10th December 2004. Three papers will be selected for the IFLA day and three for the mobilemeet day. Final papers must not exceed 20 minutes in length when read aloud.
Please say if Power Point etc is to be used. The paper should be in one of the five IFLA languages. An English translation would be useful for us to make choice but is not obligatory. See IFLA General Guidelines for Papers
